personality; Toph is sarcastic, direct, confrontational and fiercely independent. She's carefree and adventurous as well as tomboyish, and loves fighting whenever possible. She's brutally honest as well, telling people what she thinks of them regardless of status or age, and tends to be spoiled and aloof due to her upbringing. She loves verbally abusing or taunting her opponents (or whoever annoys her) as well. She has a horrible relationship with her parents, and although she was reluctant to leave them when Aang wanted her to teach him to earthbend, she did anyway, and admitted that she hated them afterwards. She tells Sokka that she relies on Katara because she cares about who Toph really is, and views Katara as a mother more than she does her biological mother. She does, however, care for her parents and knows they only want to protect her. Despite her hard exterior, she is insecure, especially about her blindness. She hates people coddling her or treating her different because of it, and is always ready to prove her strength. Toph tends to view a friendly gesture as an act of pity for her disability. She's also insecure about what she looks like, as she's never seen herself.

And then there is her personal hygiene. Toph likes sleeping on the ground outside, walks barefoot everywhere (making her feet filthy), burps, picks her nose, spits and is almost always covered in what she calls "a healthy coating of earth". She does know nearly everything about the ins and outs of manners and high society, she just ignores them.

strengths; Oh boy, here we go. Toph is an Earthbender, meaning she can control anything "earthy", such as sand, rocks, soil, ect. All of the bending styles in the Avatar universe are based on a type of martial arts - Earthbending is based on the Hung Gar style of Kung Fu. Toph, however, based her Earthbending on the Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style. She can use Earthbending to "feel" tiny vibrations in the ground (a lot like echolocation, only though the ground) and can visualize where people are, their distance from her, their physical build, and the presence of trees, buildings, and even ants around her. This gives her an advantage against other Earthbenders, because they need contact with the ground and extract rocks from it, and thus Toph can sense everything they do. Her hearing is also incredibly sensitive because of her blindness, and she claims to be able to tell when someone is lying based on their heartbeat and breathing patterns, although this didn't work on Azula (although she's a psychopath and so doesn't count). She's also the only Earthbender who can bend metal by sensing the impurities in it and using them to bend the surrounding metal.

weaknesses; Because of Toph's dependence on vibrations in the ground, she can't sense attacks intiated in midair at all, such as attacks from opponents who can fly, or Airbenders. She has difficultly with sand, because it constantly shifts and isn't solid, and she call the vibrations that move through it "fuzzy". She also can't swim and hates to fly or travel underwater. She requires contact with earth to use her abilities, so if she's trapped in a wooden room or in the middle of the ocean she's helpless.
